It's all an n=1, and other than being at least as fast on some runs as I was before I can't tell you if I was indeed more efficient.scientifically or whatever. But, I found that if I was running without feeling the 'lugs' on the front of the shoe, that I was more efficient. I didn't change my stride at all intentionally, but what I did find happening was that I adjusted how I 'carried' myself when running in them.

For me, the Newtons served more as a feedback tool than anything. Personally, I feel like people get into trouble with Newton's or any shoe for that matter when they put them on and suddenly start thinking about how they are striking the ground. I did not have good luck with the Newton 'trail' shoe. I have worn the Newton Gravity and am wearing the Kinvara 2 right now. arguably more out of the Newtons (enough to justify $$ is a judgement call and personal).Īs some others have said, they are different shoes, but do have the same 'heel to toe drop'. If you are only 15 - 20 mpw, you will get many weeks out of either shoe. The Newtons have a wide open mesh and I have a little trouble with sand, etc. The mesh is light but has microscopic holes, so very little dirt will get in. One other consideration - If you run on gravel roads, I recommend the Kinvaras. The Kinvaras just feel nice and smooth, but I am a big guy (190 lbs) and I prefer the extra cushion of the Newtons for runs over 15 miles. For me, the Newtons have that much more cushion and "Spring" but the Kinvaras are noticably lighter (this may not differ with the Distances). If you can get into a LRS and try them, that will be your best bet. If you search past threads, you will get all sorts of opinions on feel and durability for both shoes. I alternate between a pair of Kinvara 2s and a pair of Newton Gravitys.
